Where country Music and Greek culture collide

Recently my husband and I took a trip to see the Parthenon.

No not this Parthenon........................

We went to see THIS Parthenon.  Located in none other than Music City USA.  Nashville, TN.

The city of Nashville, in honor of their Tennessee Centennial Exposition, built a full scale replica of the Greek Parthenon  in 1897.

I was amazed at all the detail that was used.  On the outside of the Parthenon as well as the inside.

I took this picture of my husband standing beside one of the columns to give you and idea of how large this art museum is.

A plaque leading into the building gives a little detailed history of this magnificent structure.

These plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles are direct casts of the original sculptures that are on the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon which dates back to 435BC. There are still pieces of the originals but you have to travel to London or the Acropolis Museum in Athens to see them.
While these statues were impressive, the real jewel was the full scale replica of Athena

                                    This statue was massive.
The statue of Nike (victory) in her palm is 6 feet tall.
We had a wonderful time exploring this musuem.  What made it even more special was the fact that we were not expecting it.  So it was a treat to find a little bit of Greece in this charming city.  So next time you are visiting a city keep your eyes open you never know what you may find.
